Children in need of care
Care is not just for older people. Children can also need intensive support in everyday life. Clear rules and reliable support are particularly important for them - and their families.

When is a child considered to be in need of care?
Children often have different care needs to adults. Many parents only realize over time that their child needs more care, help and attention than their peers.
The need for care is determined by comparing the child with children of the same age. This involves assessing the extent to which independence and abilities are impaired - for example, when washing, dressing or communicating. Special age-related rules apply to children. For this reason, the classification process is very precise.
Children up to 18 months are generally classifiedone care level higher in order to take into account the increased need for support. Once the child reaches the age of 18 months, the classification is based on the points system for adults.
