Temporary stay abroad of up to six weeks

If you are temporarily staying outside Germany - e.g. on vacation - and the trip does not last longer than six weeks per calendar year, you will continue to receive all social long-term care insurance benefits as usual.

Stay abroad for longer than six weeks - within the EU, the EEA or Switzerland

If you stay in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland for a longer period of time, you will retain your entitlement to care allowance. Further cash benefits may be possible depending on the situation in the country of residence.

Residence in another EU/EEA country or in Switzerland

If you live permanently in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you may be entitled to cash benefits. In certain cases, benefits in kind are also possible - depending on the national law of the country in question.

Please note: If a care benefit in kind is received in the country of residence, its value will be offset against the care allowance. The amount paid out will be reduced accordingly.

Residence outside the EU, the EEA or Switzerland

In the event of permanent residence in a so-called treaty or non-treaty state, there is no entitlement to benefits from social long-term care insurance. In this case, we must discontinue benefits.
